was the company destined to grow?
VIPKID is an online education technology company registered in Beijing, China in 2013. The company matches K-12 Chinese students with North-American teachers delivering one to one virtual classes in 25 minute chunks giving students an opportunity to have native English teachers without leaving their home. Unlike most companies that need to establish and grow their client base, VIPKID already captured a large potential clientele before the company became fully functional, benefiting from having a prominent childcare blogger who had her two children participate in trial classes during the company's pilot stage. The blogger had more than 200,000 followers with strong support for the blogger's any suggestions. A few days after the blogger posted her children's learning experience the company received an unexpected number of calls. Cindy Mi as the company's CEO handled the situation by asking the parents to leave their contact information and promising to follow up with them first once the company become fully online. This approach gave parents a positive impression and provided the company's first group of students.
Even since the company opened to the public, the company has expended quickly. In 7 years VIPKid has become one of the leading education startups globally. The classes have also changed from pure English tutoring to include math, social science and other subjects delivered through English.
